Day 11 – Honoring and Remembering

Day 11 – I am thankful for all those who are serving, have served and have given their lives for our country!

REPOST from last Veteran’s Day

Americans and Americans abroad, Please take a moment out of your day to think about what all of the veterans past and present have done for you and our country.

Today is a day to take special time out of our busy lives to pay tribute to those who have fought for our nation throughout history. Without their sacrifice, and for many it was the ultimate sacrifice, we might not enjoy the freedoms that we do today. Things may not be “right” with the nation at this time, but we still can speak freely, vote for those who represent us in the government, and worship as we choose!

Today I will pay special tribute to my late father, William Sr. who fought in WWII, and to my late brother Robin, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation in Viet Nam. He was killed in action on 3/9/1969!

You both are forever in my heart.

They Did Their Share
On Veteran’s Day we honor Soldiers who protect our nation.
For their service as our warriors, They deserve our admiration.
Some of them were drafted; Some were volunteers;
For some it was just yesterday; For some it’s been many years;
In the jungle or the desert, On land or on the sea,
They did whatever was assigned To produce a victory.
Some came back; some didn’t.
They defended us everywhere.
Some saw combat; some rode a desk;
All of them did their share.
No matter what the duty, For low pay and little glory,
These soldiers gave up normal lives, For duties mundane and gory.
Let every veteran be honored; Don’t let politics get in the way.
 Without them, freedom would have died;
What they did, we can’t repay. We owe so much to them,
Who kept us safe from terror, So when we see a uniform,
Let’s say “thank you” to every wearer.

I like to recommend a book that I am reminded of this Veterans Day. G.I. Joe & Lillie: Remembering a Life of Love and Loyalty was written by Joe Bonsall of the Oak Ridge Boys. The book is his parent’s love story that started while they both were serving their country in World War II. I love this book. It was one of those books that I did not want to put down. Joe’s writing style is as entertaining as he is on stage when performing with the Oaks.

  1. I mention Robin in my post – and will be going to the Memorial Park in Lansdale to pay my respects today.

    Your family paid a bitter price along with Robin and your father – we can never forget the families of our soldiers either. The words, “thank you” sound so trite, but I mean them the most heart-felt way.
