Thank you Louis Daguerre!

Day#13/365
Today I am thankful for photography. Not only has it been a long time hobby of mine, but it is the thing that brought me to blogging, which has brought me to so many wonderful blogging friends. I am not artistic in any way that requires the use of a pencils, pens, or brushes, but when I am taking photographs I feel like I am creating works of personal art (well some of them!)

Living in Orlando, with almost weekly visits to Disney gave me many opportunities to practice my photography, not to mention the varied wildlife and bird life that is found there! Florida was where I learned to NEVER LEAVE home without my camera, which has been made much easier now that our smartphones generally have a pretty decent camera!

You can peruse some of my photography here. There is some good, some bad and some so-so. Now that some years have passed since our “Disney Era”, I need to go through and clean out some of the so-so pics!

Well, it is time again to run to work! I had a productive day off yesterday, and look forward to Friday and Saturday off!
The weather has continued to be unseasonably warm, but rainy. I hear that we are in for the return of colder weather and possibly even a wee bit of the white stuff tonight!

Thanks A-Latte for stopping by!

Wild and Crazy, NOT!

Wow, we are halfway through August and 30 Days About Me! Time is flying much too fast.
If you haven’t been following along, I’ve been participating in 30 Days about Me, hosted by Toni.

Day 16- Who Do You Do the Most Crazy Things With OR What is the Most Crazy Thing You’ve Done?

30 Days About Me

I don’t really think of myself as the “wild and crazy” kind of girl. I mean when I was younger, I had my moments, but of late, not so much.

I think becoming a mom, a single mom at that has made me a more cautious person. I’ve never really been much of a daredevil either, so no bungee jumping, sky diving or wrestling alligators for me!

Some might say packing up and moving to Orlando 10 weeks after my first visit there was crazy. I did that in 2003. Tara and I moved 1000 miles from all our friends and family just because, we could. We had a great six year adventure living near the “House of the Mouse”. We moved back home to PA six years and 4 days later to be back closer to family. (Some family events over the past three weeks make me question that decision at times!)

We’ve had some “memorable” adventures. Those that people would say, I would never have thought to do that.

The two that come to my mind involve Tropical Storms, coincidentally, both beginning with the letter “E”. Ernesto and Earl!

We went to Magic Kingdom during Tropical Storm Ernesto (8/30/2006). We lived less than an hour from the parks, Tara’s school was closed, and I worked at home. The rains weren’t too bad, so we decided to head over and have dinner and see what else we could do. We had the park almost to ourselves and had a good four hours before the storm started to get bad.
Adventureland - TS Ernesto
Last year, we headed to Ocean City, NJ during Tropical Storm Earl. We wanted to be close to the ocean, to see the waves. We had a great day! (9/3/2010)

So, are you wild and crazy? What was the craziest thing you have done?

Mosaic Monday – Magic Kingdom Christmas

Mosaic Monday is one of my favorite posts of the week.  It is always fun to figure out the theme each week!  Mosaic Monday is hosted by Mary at The Little Red House.  Do stop by, say hello and visit some of the other participants.  You won’t be disappointed, and maybe you too will be inspired to join in the fun!

It’s back to Disney posts for me, having spent the last 6 Christmases in Florida, for Tara and I it was pretty much all about Disney.  I do have to admit that I am missing it just a little!

Hopefully I can get out and about and find some new Christmas shots throughout the month to share.  I’ve got one little “field trip” up my sleeve for this week.  We will see how that works out.

Have a Fa La La La Day!

With Fall upon us here in Pennsylvania, and Tara and I loving it, we look fondly back on our favorite fall activity while we lived in Orlando. Halloween at Magic Kingdom was always fun! 2007 and 2008, must have been days when Tara was not wanting to be in the photos! I know we were there, but no pics with Tara!

Cheaper Than Therapy

In keeping with my photo meme theme this week of Magic Kingdom, I am sharing some pictures of Tara through the years. Unfortunately, I can’t find two photos of her in the same place in 2003 and 2009. (I should have planned better!)

Magic Kingdom for me was the place I wanted to go when the real world got to be too much. I loved walking through the gates and being able to feel like a kid again!

Have a great day!

Cheaper Than Therapy

I was looking through some Disney photos the other day, and I came across this one that is a favorite of mine. Not perfect by any means technically, not stunningly beautiful, etc., but it was such a candid moment.

Tara and I were leisurely wondering around Tomorrowland one evening on an impromptu trip to Magic Kingdom (they alwayw wound up being the best ones, not the ones that I planned ahead for some special event or day). Chip and Dale were just finishing up their Meet & Greet session, and all of a sudden, Dale (see RED nose, Chip’s is brown like a chocolate CHIP), walked over to Tara, took her by the hand, and started walking off with her in the “sunset”. I just thought it was so cute! Over the years we had the BEST interaction with those two characters in the parks!

We have autographs of over 100 characters, and there came a point that Tara was OVER the whole thing.. although I was obsessed with getting as many as I could for our “collection”, but whenever we would see C&D, and the line was not incredibly long, we would stop and say HI!

A Thousand Words Thursday – Fireworks

Cheaper Than Therapy

Jen is on vacation with her family, so ATWT might not be up on her blog until Friday, but I wanted to make sure I got my picture(s) posted. ATWT is a place to share our favorite photos from the past or present. Click on the button above (probably not until Friday) to see other entries for this week!

In honor of 4th of July, what better pictures than FIREWORKS.

These were taken at Magic Kingdom, July 3, 2006.

Tara and I normally stayed away from the parks on or around holidays, but something “moved” us to go that evening. We had a great time, spending most of it right near Big Thunder Mtn Railroad. It is a great spot away from the crowds to watch fireworks, and Tara rode BTMRR for a record breaking (for her anyway) 13 times in one night!

Photos were taken hand held (no tripod) with my Canon S2-IS. (I loved that camera, but it died!)

and just because I was always proud of how this photo turned out (of BTMRR), I thought I would share too!

Our Weekend

Tara and I had another really nice weekend. We had great weather.

We started our weekend going to see 17 Again. I really enjoyed the movie, as did Tara, with a few scenes that made her a little uncomfortable. This movie is definitely not for the 7-11 year old, High School Musical, Zac Efron fans. Matthew Perry/Zac Efron play a man, who was given a chance to go back and be 17 again. He positions himself as the son of a friend of the family, in order to try and make a difference and change the lives of his kids who don’t really like him, and his wife who is divorcing him. Tara said it was “weird” hearing some of the conversations that Zac Efron was having, just not used to hearing him on screen having such mature conversations. I don’t regret that Tara saw the movie, but I was glad that she saw it with me. She had to go to the rest room at one point, just after a scene that involved some safe sex type conversation and a basket of condoms. She sent me a text and asked “where those condoms in the basket”. I almost laughed out loud….. my 12 year old texting me the word CONDOM! This is one of those movies that each parent needs to decided what is the right thing for their child.

Saturday we got up and went out to Denny’s for breakfast. We had not done this in a very long time. There is something about starting your weekend with a good cup of Denny’s coffee! After breakfast, we headed over to our town center, where they were having a farmers market. This was the first weekend, and they plan on having it every weekend going forward (not sure if just until the fall or every week). It was nice, I wished we had not eaten breakfast before we went, they had many tasty choices. There seemed to be a good turn out, and many great vendors. I took pictures of fruits, veggies and flowers. Click HERE, to see my photoblog post with pics! I still love the Winter Park Farmers Market, and can’t wait to get back to PA so we can go to Rice’s Market, but this is a great option, just down the road!

We came home and worked on editing pictures. I shot my pictures in RAW for the first time, so I was learning the software to process the photos. I am also working on doing more “special effect” processing to some of my photos, so the process is time consuming. Tara and I also spent some time in the pool. Yes, I got in the pool. once accustomed to the water temperature, it was not too bad. We had a nice time chatting and blowing bubbles! I guess Tara was tired from all our fun.

Sunday our plan was to get up and out early to be at Magic Kingdom for opening. We were successful in executing this plan! What was unexpected was the fact the Space Mtn had already been closed for refurbishing. I thought it started on Monday. So instead of Space Mtn, we headed to Buzz Lightyear, where I scored the highest score possible for the very first time! Tara was not happy for me!

We then wandered around a bit, found three characters that I did not have in our collection. They were leaving, but would be returning in a few minutes. We headed up by the castle took some photos, rode Snow White and Winnie the Pooh. By this time it was almost time for the characters. Tara ran to Toontown to check for something in the store, and I waited and took some pictures. Before too long Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drizella appeared. I was the first in line (I am sure some folks think I am a crazy grown up, but we have quite a collection, and I don’t want to miss a chance to adding to it!)

We both decided we were hungry, and oddly enough, we had had enough of the park for the day. There are some days that although I love it there, a short visit is enough. We were both hungry, and there wasn’t really anything in the park we wanted to eat, so we hopped the monorail and tram back to our car, and head away from The Happiest Place on Earth to Cracker Barrel. We had a nice lunch, then headed back towards home, making a stop off to run an errand. I was ready for a nap when we came home, but had a mess to clean up from one of the animals. Later, I sat outside and enjoyed the nice evening while Tara played in the pool! Of course, there was Amazing Race to watch and more photos to edit.

So that was pretty much our weekend, fun, fun, fun, and very little housework!
